Missing Delhi's yummy Street Food

Just yesterday I came across this community on Orkut on Eating Out in Delhi and in that a thread on the most famous Street Food at joints across the city. Ever since my salivary glands have been working overtime and my brain reminiscing to come up with my own list of the foods I once relished and now miss sooooooo much ...

1) The best magaz curry(brain curry) at Kake da dhaba in CP. The chicken makhani and dal fry are just as good - a culinary delight !!

2) Fish fry at Rajinder da dhaba (also known as Kamal da dhaba) at Safderjung Enclave just behind the once Kamal cinema hall. After having tasted a dozen types of fish, I still can't get ovet the taste of this one complete with the nimbu, chatni and the spl masala.

3) Ultimate pyaz kachoris at Kailash colony famous mithai wala whose name totally eludes me at this point of time, starts with an A as far as I recollect. Will have u craving for more.

4) Chhole bhature at Nagpal in lajpat Nagar IV - National park or Vikram Vihar or is it Amar Colony itself - not sure. Equally scrumptious were the aloo and dal samosas complete with kajus and kishmish - heavenly !!

5) Of course the inimitable Chandni Chowk - have a very fond memory attached with this place. Went there with some college friends to look for some books - came back with a bloated tummy - thanks to the desi ghee gulab jammuns and jalebis, Standard dahi bhallas, kachori subzi and much more - and no books :)

6) The most amazing rasmalai and milk cake at Gopala's in Amar colony - toothsome and tonguesome and mouthsome and simply irresistible !!

7) Golgappas and papri chaat and aloo chatt of any whatever place in Delhi !! They were all so good and the best part was the inverse proportion between hygeine and taste - really I mean it - all Dilliwalas will agree with me on this one !!

Oh my do I miss these !!! The worst part being my digestive immunity, so to say, which has gone for a complete toss after just about 3 years of staying in the US. The last time I visited Delhi in Feb this year, I was ashamed of my system turning from a total 'kankad hazam patthar hazam' till 2 years back to one which conked out at as much as one chomp of a chicken tikka or a nibble of a papdi outside of home. Disgraceful indeed !! Wonder when am I going to go back to devouring endlessly all these and much more of delish, luscious, zestful FOOD !!

Yeah its my second post about SNOW in the past 2 days, but then I am so awestruck !!

We have been getting snow flurries off and on since last morning. Last evening we took Vansh to the EP mall play area and when we came out after 45 minutes, all the cars were white with snow. It was quite a sight !! The snow was so powdery and soft to the touch. I and Ashwini were so mesmerised by the effect, we spent the 5-7 minutes drive back home as if in a trance, not uttering a single word.

Right now the temperature outside is 0 degrees and weather.com which has become a permanent feature on my desktop these days says it feels like -7. I couldn't resist taking pictures of the snow covered grass outside.

The view outside from Vansh's room.

ITS SNOWING !! ITS SNNNNOOOOWWWWIIINNNGGG !!!!!

I went to drop Ashwini in the morning today to the South West Station thinking I'll take Vansh somewhere out today - poor thing is feeling so bored staying indoors so much, what with the temperature being 2 degrees outside, going for a stroll is no longer feasible. And it was snowing!! Meager, powdery which didn't last on the ground - probably melted right away because the earth is still somewhat warm from last week's fab weather but nevertheless SNOWING !!

It was only the second time that I saw snowfall, the first one being in Simla but I was just a tourist there so it didn't really matter. But this is where I stay and I saw the first SNOWFALL already. Tough weather days lie ahead - the signal's gone off !!

Watch closely - u'll see the snow fall - jsut a flurry but very much there !!

Here I start ..FINALLY !!!

Hmm ..I have been thinking of doing this for so long now. Looks like now's finally the time. Ashwini's off to South Dakota, Vansh is taking a nap. Weather's so sluggish to be doing anything else. The view from my bedroom window is lovely and formidable at the same time. The enchanting fall hues of bright yellow, brilliant orange and fiery red are setting in nicely; formidable because of the rain and the imminent winters. Just last evening Ashwini told me Minnesota is going to see the coldest winters in the past 10 years, now that's what I call so very welcoming for someone who hates to even visit a snowy place, let alone live in one...huh !! A maximum of -4 degrees during a usual December day was not enough to feel the cold in its full grandeur, the state wants us to experience all that and more (or less would be more appropriate here). Here I go again, cribbing about the winter even before it has begun.
Let me write about Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna which I finally watched yesterday till 2:30 at night with Ashwini not by my side. It was a never ending saga of stupidity (Dev and Maya's) - 2 cynics coming together - God only knows what happened to them after getting together. I am sure the rancor was enough to bring down their marriage pretty soon. I never felt the love in the relationship that they shared, identifying with each other's situation yes; stirring each other's dormant sexual desires yes but love, not from what I understood. On top of that SRK looking so worn out. The best part was senior Bachchan's character - larger than life as usual yet astounding. And of course the extravagance. Beautiful backdrop, lively parties, fab clothes ..hmmm....
hmmmmmm ..back to reality ..Vansh is doing pretty well at the ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education) classes. He is one of the only 2 children out of 9 who don't come back to their moms while we are in an adjoining room for the latter 45 minutes. Made me realise he's just as fine with a bunch of toys as with me :) He has suddenly transformed from being totally docile till about 2 weeks back to the bully when with another child. If playing with 4 toys, he fights till he has all 5 with himself, the 5th one being a strand of other child's hair or a piece of his shirt ... okay I am exaggerating but he's a monster in the making, without doubt.
Let me get back to work. I am glad I made a start at least. Hope I continue as well ..Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna !!
